Hubert’s dream was to be accepted for PPE at Oxford. However, he realised that he was disadvantaged in several ways, including having limited access to the GCE-ALs taken by his British competitors as well as a lack of opportunity to engage in relevant experiences for PPE.
A&J began work with Hubert two years before the October 15th deadline for Oxbridge application. In the process, we worked closely with both Hubert and his parents in devising the optimum strategy, with focus placed on two areas: academic and extracurricular improvement.
Academically, we ensured that Hubert had access to the best tutoring possible, ensuring that academically he quickly established himself as one of the top students at his school. Beyond this, we also enrolled Hubert privately for the GCE-AL exams and helped him on his way to 3A*s before he even applied to Oxford to distinguish himself from the competition
More specifically for Oxford, we also ensured that he was well drilled for the required TSA exam, and intensively prepared for the interview through exposing him to an exclusive databank of past interview questions and pitting him against many specialist panels during mock interviews. Sure enough, Hubert excelled by being one of the few interviewees at Lincoln College to correctly answer all stages of a repeated-game theory question – something that A&J had knowingly extensively prepared him for.
On the extracurricular front, A&J immediately targeted improving Hubert’s debating and Public Speaking Skills in order to raise both his confidence as well as the ability in ‘thinking on his feet’. After responding well to regular training, Hubert went on successfully trial for the National Team, ending up representing Hong Kong at the World Schools Debating Championships.
